Williams To Run For State Representative

Orland Park, IL- Today, Steven Williams of Orland Park announced that he is running for the Illinois General Assembly as a Republican in the new Illinois 35th State House District.

"Over the last eight years, Democrats have led the state down a path of making Illinois one of the worst states financially.  Illinois is effectively bankrupt, owing $38 billion more than the combined net worth of the state’s assets.   Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Illinois has lost over 105,000 jobs since the tax increase was passed in January, driving the unemployment rate in Illinois from 9.0% in January to a projected 9.9% in August.

We need a thoughtful, comprehensive approach to solving the state’s fiscal problems. I believe my experience in private sector businesses will enable me to lead the state to better decisions for my constituents."

Steven is an honorably discharged veteran, serving four years as an enlisted member of the United States Air Force. He also has seven years law enforcement experience including his time in the military. For the last eleven years, Steven has held leadership positions in project management, finance, and strategy within major national and international corporations. While in these positions, he led numerous process improvement initiatives, saving those organizations millions of dollars.

Steven is currently a Director in the IT Business Management Office of CNA Insurance leading the Metrics, Reporting, and Analytics group and is a key leader in planning and managing the organization’s $350 million budget. Steve and his wife, Andrea, together with their son, Jack, have lived in Orland Park since 2006.

Dear Mr Williams...I appreciate u wanting to get your name out there early. However... posting ur campaign signs around the train stations before Thanksgiving, when the primary isnt even until Feb is very wrong to me. Would really b nice not to have to deal with political campaigning until after xmas. Probably just me...but really??? What were u thinking? Hope ur not planning on robo calling and mailing during the holidays too. Right now, that move has put u on the bottom of my list to vote for.

Sue, I disagree. Steve has an uphill battle ahead of him and he needs to do everything possible to get his name out there. I know that it can be annoying to some, but that's a small price to pay for democracy. If Steve is serious about helping Illinois get back on the right track, I support anything he does to win this thing.

John Paul - Thanks for your opinion. Like you said, I'm sure there are some who will agree with either of us. I personally think the December Holiday season should be free of all compaigning and just focus on being there for each other on a human side. For me, if he wants to get his name out there more, he should instead, be more active and give back to the community through schools and other non-profit organizations by donating his time volunteering. Not post campaign signs. Actions speak louder than words/signs/postcards in my book.

We already push Thanksgiving and almost Halloween out of the way to make room for Christmas. So posting campaign signs now, is seems like we're just supposed to push Thanksgiving and Christmas out of the way for elections too. Might make sense to him and you, but just seems in poor taste to me. Would really like Christmas and December holidays to be the one month I don't have to worry about political campaigning.

It may be the holiday season, but it is also signature season. Steve was at the train station collecting signatures to get on the ballot this morning. Though the primary is in March, the filing deadline for petitions is next week. The signs were up only during the time he was out collecting this morning so no worries "Sue," you will be able to enjoy your holiday season after all.

If Steven Williams intends to run a professional and legitimate campaign, he needs a press person who knows how to write a news release. Note to Andrea: Spend a few minutes learning how to format a release. It will add to your credibility.

Who cares, it is petition season, it is what it is. Sue, I agree, three day's before thanksgiving and I had to watch Obama on t.v. complain again about how he doesn't get his way. I would love three day's of silence. Oh, wait, that is why I fought for this country so that people like Steve can go out and exercise his civic duty. Please write Macy's and ask them not to put up Christmas lights before thanksgiving, and while you are at it can you call 93.9 and ask them not to play 60 days of Christmas music while you are at it. thanks

Folks, politics is one of the prices we pay for democracy. What's the alternative? Have the Steve Williams' of the world sit home and just let the incumbents stay in?
