Candidates for Illinois 18th State Senate seat were invited to answer questions at a forum Thursday in Palos Hills.

State Rep. Bill Cunningham (D-35th) and Republican Barbara Bellar are vying for the senate seat that covers portions of Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, Orland Park, Palos and other surrounding communities.

Among other questions, candidates were asked what they thought about the Affordable Care Act, commonly called "Obamacare."

Patch recorded their full responses and posted them for voters to review.

Barbara Bellar has my vote. Cunningham is a tired machine politician from the same group that has turned the State of Illinois, County of Cook (and City of Chicago) into the mess that it is now. We need to start fresh.

I don't care for her position on Obamacare. She, if elected, will get free health care and a pension. I am struggling just to make ends meet and my children (on in college and one out and job hunting) have no insurance. No one will insure them because of 'pre-existing conditions'. My son has ADD and my daughter had heart surgery in 2008. And we make $50 too much to get help... so we struggle and go broke instead... yeah - Obamacare is our only bet right now...

"God should decide how long we live, not President Obama." Maybe we should get rid of doctors, too, Barbara. Since God should decide how long we live, perhaps we should just flush the whole field of medicine down the drain.

"One thing we're born with is freedom of choice and there is no choice here." Another GREAT quote by a Republican. Don't you love how Republican talk about freedom of choice... unless of course you are a woman... then they want to control what you do with your body.

This shouldn't even be a contest for Cunningham.

Sam are u that dumb to think that she meant that there should be no doctors? I sure hope not. I pretty sure she was talking about how Obama wants to decide when it is no longer worth keeping a person alive to kick them off his pos healthcare plan. He should not be the one to decide how long (god for bid your kid gets some sort of terminal disease) and you are just trying to keep him or her comfortable for the rest of their days and he thinks your wasting his healthcare dollars so he says no more meds no more pain pills your son or daughtHer will just have to suffer till they die. Is that what you want?
