A Husband's Wild Tale of Kidnapping, Robbery and Crack

Police charge the Orland Park man with several crimes after deciding he phonied up a story of coerced crack smoking. They also arrested and charged two others with theft and prostitution.

Geries Fakhoury met police in front of his townhome around midnight on March 8 and spun a tale of robbery, kidnapping and forced drug use, claiming a man and woman accosted him in his driveway with a screwdriver, robbed him and forced him to smoke crack.

Orland Park police stopped the couple’s car just minutes later at 143rd Street and LaGrange Road and recovered $800 in cash, a wallet, keys and garage door opener.

But the next day, police were charging the 32-year-old Fakhoury of several crimes. Also charged were the couple in the car: Shina Tousant, 35, of the 1300 block of Tripp Street in Chicago, with prostitution and theft, and Thomas C. Chatman, 49, of the same address, with prostitution.

Fakhoury claimed that as he came home from work, a man and woman forced him to drive to his bank, where he withdrew $800 from an ATM, police said. They returned to Fakhoury’s home in the 9400 block of John Humphrey Drive, and the couple forced him to smoke crack cocaine before stealing his wallet, keys and garage door opener, according to the police report.

Then he went upstairs to wake his wife.

But Fakhoury’s wife tells a different story. She said her husband was running late that evening. She fell asleep before he arrived, according to the report. She was awoken around midnight to the sound of her husband’s voice, saying, “They are holding me hostage.” She saw a black man next to her husband with a crack pipe and a screwdriver, police said.

She said Chatman told her husband he wanted to have sex with her but backed off when Tousant removed him from the room. They also tried to force her smoke crack cocaine until she lied and said she suffers from asthma. Fakhoury, she noted, then hid her phone in the closet, according to the report.

The four went downstairs, where Fakhoury and Chatman undressed down to their underwear and began smoking crack, she said. In Arabic, she asked her husband to call police, to which Fakhoury replied it would be best to let them do what they wanted, police said.

Eventually, she said, Chatman dressed himself and left with Tousant. Fakhoury’s wife took the opportunity to find a phone and dial police.

Fakhoury’s, Chatman’s and Tousant’s statements have been redacted from the police report.

Based on evidence gathered from Fakhoury’s car, police say they were able to determine Fakhoury had not been kidnapped but willingly met with Chatman and Tousant earlier in the evening. Cell phone records prove they spoke at 10:26 p.m. and 10:31 p.m., according to the report.

Police said they also found crack cocaine in Fakhoury’s car but did not report finding any in Chatman’s and Tousant’s.

Fakhoury is charged with patronizing a prostitute, possession of a controlled substance and felony disorderly conduct for filing a false police report.
