Defense Wants to Set Trial in Child Sex Assault, Sex Chatting Cases

A defense attorney for a 36-year-old Orland Park man accused of molesting his girlfriend's teen daughter, and sex chatting with a fictitious 14-year-old girl in an unrelated matter, told a Cook County judge that he wants to move the cases forward.

An attorney for an Orland Park man charged with felony sex crimes involving underaged girls wants to move toward a trial date for his client.

However, more evidence in 36-year-old Kevin Skaritka's most recent case, where he was accused of attempting to exchange nude photos online with a 14-year-old girl who was actually an undercover cop last September, is outstanding, prosecutors said during a hearing Thursday.

Skaritka was already facing unrelated sex assault charges and was set to begin a trial in September, but it has been postponed since the new charges were filed. In the original case, authorities say he molested his girlfriend’s teenage daughter and exposed himself to her between 2009 and May 2011

Skaritka has been in custody since the new charges surfaced after being given a $2 million bond. He appeared at Thursday's hearing and remained silent, looking straight ahead during the proceedings.

Prosecutors told Judge John J. Hynes they are reviewing information from a disc for confirmation, but didn't elaborate.

In response, Skaritka's attorney Robert Callahan indicated that he wants to start trying to put both matters in place to set a new trial date.

Callahan declined comment after the hearing.

A status hearing on both cases has been set for Feb. 7.
