Film Fundraiser for Family Who Lost Loving Mom

Liberty teacher organizing fundraiser to benefit education fund for children of fellow teacher who lost his spouse.

Ask anyone at Liberty School about Sean Lyons, the first response before an answer would be a smile.

Lyons is a 5th grade teacher at the school where he has taught for 17 years. Parents, students and co-workers all agree that to know him is to love him. This is why they were all so saddened when suddenly, on February 25th of this year, Sean's wife, Susan Lyons, passed away.

She was 41 years old and her most cherished role was being a mother to her two boys, 7-year-old Luke and 4-year-old Benjamin. Susan was an avid runner who had recently qualified for the 2012 Boston Marathon. Her family refers to her as "the heart of the family," and said "Susan was a loving mother and wife and a wonderful friend to many."

A teacher at Liberty School wanted to do something more to show support for the Lyons family. Angeline Ogean decided to organize a fundraiser to benefit the education fund of Luke and Benjamin Lyons. According to Ogean, she "wanted to do something that was family friendly." It seemed fitting that this teacher would choose to organize a fundraiser to benefit the education fund for the children of their fellow teacher and friend.

"Sean is passionate about Liberty, his teaching and his students and family," Ogean said of Mr. Lyons.

Many families had asked what they could do to show their support for the Lyons family. She came up with the idea to host the fundraiser at a showing of the soon-to-be-released Pixar film, Cars 2.

The tickets are $12 each and all proceeds go to the Luke and Ben Lyons Education Fund. Tickets are available at the l office anytime during school hours until June 17th. After that date, please contact Angeline Ogean via email at aogean@orland135.org for tickets and information.

Any monetary donations can be made out to the Luke and Ben Lyons Education Fund, and can be sent in care of Liberty School, 8801 West 151st Street, Orland Park, IL 60462.
