Help Us Pick the Golf Course with the Best Greens
Vote in the Patch poll! You love your course for its well-manicured, uniformly brushed, divot-less greens—tell us all about it and brag about your favorite courses in the Southland.
Few things can spoil a round of golf quicker than unkempt greens. Ball divots, uneven green speeds and, not to mention, dead patches can quickly send golfers searching for the 19th hole.
Your favorite courses have mastered the combination of greens speed, undulations, trueness of roll and firmness. Patch wants to know which course's greens keep you shooting for par.
- First, cast a vote for your favorite in our poll. Voting ends Friday, May 18.
- Then, click on the name of the business below and leave a review.
Reviews count for half of the overall score in determining a winner. The reviews and poll votes will be tallied and factor into the naming of "The Course with the Best Greens in the South Suburbs."

I agree with Jim T., the greens at Flossmoor CC are the best in the Southern Suburbs and are among the best in all of Chicagoland.

In spite of all the play it gets, Coyote Run can't be beat. As good as any country club course around.

I agree Coyote Run is a great course especially for a public course but Flossmoor has undoubtedly the best greens.

Having been around golf courses for the past 35 years I can say that comparing greens is like comparing apples and oranges. So much depends on the number of rounds played, big budget or small, large crew or small, size and design of greens, slope of the greens, soil vs USGA sand based greens, variety of grasses. These are just a few to mention. What matters to me is, do I have an enjoyable experience, is it fair for my play and does it make me happy? If I get a great experience those greens are the best for me.

Hello? Olympia Fields RULES. I guess it would not be fair to even let it compete.

Olympia Fields is certainly the tops but Coyote Run and Flossmoor CC are easily comparible. Now, I am talking about th quality of the greens roll. Is it consistent, is it fast and is it fair. For your average hobbiest, Coyote Run is by far the best. For monied daily golfers with a low handicap - then certainly Olympia Fields and Flosmmor Country club are where you must cast you vote. From a popular point of view though - Coyote run has the best public fare greens I've ever played and I've played public courses all over the country including TPC's and Cog Hill. Coyote's are better than Dubsdread unless you play Dubs right after the Championship.

The survey should be split between public and private courses>

I agree that there needs to be a breakdown between private and public courses, as there usually is a big difference in the budgets they have, amount of play and control over the players on the course.

Where is woodbine? Their greens are right there with the best.

Woodbine??, you should get to other courses more often. Maybe there is a reason they were not on the list, location likely, but.....

Well, looks like Prestwick CC (Private Club) easliy got the votes, but well deserved. Any time you have limited access, better golfers with integrity (fixing divots, raking bunkers, ball marks, etc), and a great staff with great equipment, of course you will have excellent conditions. Sure wish I could get to play there more often!!!

I agree, Prestwick CC has a GREAT course. Big trees, abundant water, thick rough, and great sloping greens. I wish they had a terraced green though. Their locker room guy (Harry W.) is a class act!!! And their food/dinners are the BEST around! I should be a guest more often, maybe I should join?!!!!

You sound like an advertizement for PCC, but you are correct. Don't forget about their other great staff too. I have never been treated so well at a course! They have a new manager there, great guy (PGA too), and the two golf pros there Brandon Adair and Tim (don't know his last name) are smooth. Kudos to the grounds Dept!!!

The greens there ARE great, and fast. After I play there (rare), I usually leave my putts short on the next course, LOL. Yep, Harry is a nice guy, been there forever! Be sure to have the Filet there, no need to go to Chicago. And that Hole #10, ouch, water, water, water. Be sure to leave your putts below the holes, no one wants a downhill putt at Prestwick.

I have been lucky enough over the years (thanks to my corp. hook up's) to play most courses in Chicagoland, Private and Public. Since this is only about the southlands, I would agree that Olympia & Prestwick are the nicest around. Of course, Private! 30 years is alot of time to get around. I like these courses as well due to the fact that they have caddies too (weekends). I like to walk with my hosts; besides, Prestwick has horrible golf carts, Chinese I think, with faulty brakes! I heard it was a bad lease deal. I think they are getting new carts this year or next.

The best greens around are Prestwick CC followed by Flossmoor with Idlewild coming in behind them. These private courses are a cut above and unfortunately the public courses really can't compare for a multitude of reasons. There probably should be two categories for this poll. Either way, don't ever refuse an offer to play any of these great private clubs!

Well said Thomas C., well said. I would play any of these, and Olympia anytime I was asked. And the great thing about going to a private club, they do not accept cash, (normally). It gets billed to the Host. What great guys!! And great courses!
