Hienie McCarthy's Remains Open After Car Crashed Through Entrance
A man drove into the Orland Park business's front door Thursday afternoon. No one was injured inside the restaurant.
Hienie McCarthy's Catering continued serving customers Thursday after a driver drove into the restaurant's entrance.
A man heading south on Southwest Highway drove across 143rd Street and continued through the front door of the restaurant, causing damage to the door, frame and north wall of the building, around 1:15 p.m.
"He really just hit that front end and didn’t change anything as far as the kitchen goes or the front counter thank God," said Bob McCarthy, brother of the restaurant's owners.
The driver was taken away by emergency personnel, but his condition wasn't available Thursday night.
Three customers were eating inside the establishment when the crash happened, McCarthy said. None were injured.
"They were just a few feet away from the crash," McCarthy said. "One man within two seconds jumped over the car and went in to make sure the guy was OK. It was unbelievable."
Shortly after the crash, the business was allowed to open back up. Before boarding was put up on the front entrance, they sold out of their back door, McCarthy said.
"We just put the register in the back, until we could bring it back to the front," McCarthy said.
This was not the only time the business has been struck by a car.
"This was probably the fourth or fifth time," McCarthy said. "But usually they end up hitting the corner. The last time was about six months ago. A guy actually got out of his car and just ran away."
