Huntington Learning Center Celebrates 15 Years in Orland Park
Educational center celebrates years of working with thousands of students in a variety of ways.
The Huntington Learning Center is celebrating its 15th anniversary in Orland Park. Owners Rick and Beth Brodecki opened the center in December 1997 and the center has been helping students with reading, writing, math, study skills and ACT prep ever since.
“Since the center works with a few hundred students over the course of each year, we have literally helped thousands of area students over these past 15 years. That is very gratifying and something about which we are very proud,” said owner Rick Brodecki.
“All three of our children attended the center. Our oldest child was in first grade when we opened, and he is now about to graduate college. So much has happened in those 15 years,” according to co-owner Beth Brodecki.
In fact, Huntington Learning Center is one of the longest-standing tenants at the Ravinia Plaza mall it occupies.
“I think that says a lot about the quality of service we have provided to the community over the years,” adds Rick Brodecki.
The Brodeckis attribute much of Huntington’s success to its dedicated employees. Center Director Mary Nenn has been with the center for 10 years. Several other staff members and teachers, including Chris Fuller, Jenni Schuster, Chester Sempkowski, Rob Sandoval, Sue Moy and Eileen Carpenter have been with the center since its very early years.
Huntington provides academic testing and tutoring to school age children in the areas of Reading, Writing, Phonics, Math and Study Skills. An area which has seen significant growth over the past seven years is Huntington’s ACT Prep program. The center has tracked student score improvements and reports an average increase of over 4.5 points for students who complete the majority of their programs.
Huntington is accredited by both the North Central and Middle States Associations, which means the center has undergone extensive peer review by the education community.
“We believe accreditation truly makes us stand apart and should be taken by the community as an indication of our commitment to providing a quality education to every student,” concludes Beth Brodecki.
The center is located at 15226 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park. Call 708-226-0422 or visit www.huntingtonlearning.com for more information.

If parents would turn off the TV and the computer and oversee their child's homework hour they wouldn't have to spend $45/hour to have teachers babysit.

Even though turning off the TV is a great idea, not every child is born with an IQ of 140. Not every parent has the ability to know how to teach their child material that they are learning in school; especially at the middle and high school levels. Many people use other resources (besides Huntington or Sylvan) that cost $45/hr or more because their first priority in this dog-eat-dog world is higher education for their child. If the government was made up of educators, they would stop putting money into all these crazy mandates, benchmarks and hoops to jump through. They would stop using ONLY standardized tests to measure how smart or talented students are. We have become a "conveyor belt" system. Teachers in the classroom are not able to be creative and are given more material to cover in less time. Not every child learns the same way. Sometimes it takes one-to-one attention, a difference voice or someone who explains a skill differently, for it to "click" with a student. Education is more than just "babysitting." It gives students confidence and builds self-esteem. My hope has been and always will be to raise happy and confident adults... there enough odds against them as it is. So with that said, if my child struggled in school and I did not have the time or the ability to help my child- I would NOT hesitate to get help for him or her.
