The state's Republicans came in droves to Tinley Park on Friday sporting suits, red white and blue, and American flag T-shirts.
All were eager to take part in the weekend's Illinois Republican Convention, where there have been opinions about the importance of keeping marriage between one man and one woman and decisions made on party platform issues like direct elections and gambling.
Comments got a bit heated during delegates' talks of the nomination for the party's Republican National Committeeman. While newcomer candidate William Kelly didn't get a second look or even a nod of approval from delegates, others, like Alexander "Sandy" Stuart were specifically questioned on their donations over the years to donate to groups like Planned Parenthood.
Though slightly unorganized, the first day of the convention went off without a hitch.
