Voters need to be aware, before they waste a vote, that Cunningham is running for d135 and MV simultaneously. The 2013 candidates guide, the IASB and the Attorney General's office(easily googled and verified) deem these offices to be incompatible. He cannot serve on both should he be elected.

Let's just hope that Tom Cunningham's reputation precedes him! He is not a good, diligent Board member. His need to be in multiple election races shows a lack of focus or genuine concern. I wouldn't wish him on any board, not even a surf board!

C'mon, Kathie. Do think it was fair for her to stick the students with $35 million "Health Fitness Center" fee and tuition increase without their approval or permission? That was an expenditure that the community should have had the right to accept..or reject..in an open referedum. The fact is that she didn't give a darn about what the students wanted or were willing to pay for, she just oppressively stuck them with the bill!
After the $90 million boondoggle project of a few years ago, the current gym and fitness center had more than adequate ability ot meet the fitness needs of the students. This was just part of the "pork" system the Board uses to take care of their cronies in the local construction contractors and the unions without the "consent of the governed".
My guess is that the will also create 15-20 patronage jobs that McLaughlin, Hastings and Bennet wil gladly fill, and of course there will be those "sweetheart" no-bid service contracts that "Friends of the 19thWard Dem Organization" will get.
Is that the kind of governance you support, Kathie? If so, tell us about it and justify it. If not, perhaps you should reconsider your support of Andrea

Vote for Joe Skibinski. Joe is a very talented business professional and is passionate about everything in which he becomes involved. He would be a great asset to the Board of Trustees at Morraine Valley. Joe has been a friend since college. His drive, work ethic and morals make him a perfect candidate.

I strongly support Andrea Ramirez-Justin who is an incumbent for the 2 year term. Her philanthropic involvement in the Moraine Valley community is stellar. She is the Vice President of the Economic Development Council of the Southwest Suburbs, President of the Mokena Chamber of Commerce, a religious education 8th grade catechist at her parish – St. Stephens in Tinley Park, she is an ambassador for The Cancer Support Center, she volunteers for Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital, assists with PADS and her full time position, she is Vice President of Old Plank Trail Community Bank with offices in Orland Park, Mokena, New Lenox and Frankfort which she manages their Governmental Outreach portfolio and Community Reinvestment. With her background in finance, her everyday workings with Governmental entity finance – Andrea is able to digest, understand and add strong value to many facets at Moraine Valley Community College. With her strong business background, Andrea brings a wealth of knowledge for negotiations, contracts and more.
Andrea works for all and will continue to work for all! Andrea Ramirez-Justin is your candidate of choice for the 2 year term as Trustee at Moraine Valley Community College – Punch 201

Andrea Ramirez-Justin is on the MVCC campus 3 to 4 times a week and strongly believes in foundational education for all and with the various programs over the Associates programs like workforce development and training, customized outreach programs, mentorship and internship and more at MVCC – Andrea offers her guidance, assistance and drive to each of these programs and works tirelessly for all of the constituents of Moraine Valley Community College.
Punch 201 to elect Andrea Ramirez-Justin. She is the best qualified candidate for the 2 year term as Trustee at Moraine Valley Community College.

So what exactly does she do for her VP paycheck at that bank if she's at MVCC 3 or 4 times per week?
"Andrea offers her guidance, assistance and drive to each of these programs and works tirelessly for all of the constituents of Moraine Valley Community College."
I'm so glad she blesses us with her "guidance and assistance" ! We're so lucky to have someone who doles out money to political "government entities" from her bank and gets involved with "Community Re-investment" for high cost. low value pork projects in our area. It seems if we want to increase wasteful and unecessary spending at MVCC, continue patronage hiring and contracting to benefit the McLaughlin, Bennett, Hastings and 19th Ward Dem patronage Machine, she is the CLEAR choice for Dem patronage and cronyism!
Tell us, dear advocate, what limits on increases and benefits for her union supporters is she promoting?
What limits on tuition increases to support that political patronage network?
Tell us, advocate, can you give us at least ONE time that she came up with a recommendation that resulted in MVCC providing better service at lower cost? Can you give us ONE case where she found an economy in operations, or was able to find a way to cut patronage and waste, that enabled MVCC to reduce tuition and fees?
C'mon. advocate. Back up your claim that she works to protect the taxpayers and overburdened students against the political power of the patronage network of those who "endorse" her!

Seems Ms Ramirez-Justin is just another in a long line of Democratic political hacks who'll support the party's patronage interests and those of the unions over the students and taxpayers. We aleady have enough of that on the Board.
We need someone who'll stand up to the unions for the best interests of the students, and that person is quite clearly Joe Skibinski, a financial professional who also is a teacher.
With pension "cost shifting" coming from Sen Bill Cunningham and Madigan's crooked cabal in Springfeild, the last thing we need is another of that ilk sticking it to students and taxpayers on the MVCC Board.
Skibinski's the only real choice here if you are on the side of the students and taxpayers!

I heard great things about Andrea from several staff members at MVCC. She seems to really know her stuff and dedicates a great deal of her time to MVCC. She has my vote!

Regarding the other races, the only trustworthy candidate I know is Fernandez. He's smart, dedicated to public service, (half Irish-LOL), and has extensive instructional experience in the health care fields, a vital area where MVCC needs improvement. He's also a strong advocate for students and taxpayers when their interests conflict with those of the powerful political patronage and union interests in the district.
NO incumbents should be retained! They voted to get legislation passed that would allow them to ignore the lowest bidders on their ill-conceived and excessively expensive building projects and steer the work at as much as 5% more than the lowest responsible bidder to their contractor cronies for no reason other than the contractor having a "local address". This was an attempt to pay the local contractors back for their political financial support in the referendum and support of their "favorite" party.
Couple this with forcing employees to do political work to keep their jobs, and this cesspool needs to be cleaned out! Vote ONLY for Fernandez. Voting for others as "throwaway" votes could keep him off the Board, and that would be a tragedy. If there are any other candidates who've supported the interests of the students and taxpayers when they conflicted with the union and patronage interests. PLEASE POST ABOUT HERE!

Bob, you seem to only attack to counter anything good said about a candidate. I see your posts in all the articles. I havent seen you post anything on Tom Cunningham. So can we assume you are a buddy of his? Do you have the same ethics and aspirations as Tom>>>>> To be elected on a board to completely dismantle any sense of order and bring the district to its knees in lawsuits? POST HERE WHAT TOM CUNNINGHAM (And running mate GENTILE) HAS DONE THAT YOU SILENTLY SUPPORT HIM/THEM? you can't use the excuse that they are in The Orland races, you have been witnessed and known in the past to show up at 135 school board meetings too! Enlighten all of us as to what these candidates have done for their school system, which in your words, Spend too much money per student and have lacking state test scores to show for it. wait >>>>>.Are YOU Tom and Ann's surrogate???????? Maybe you are Tom???????>>>>>>>???????

Off the top, I don't support either Cunningham or Gentile for ANY office. When I post, I try only to add new and previously unposted information, or opinions or facts not already expressed. It seems there's been plenty of issues with those two that have already been extensively covered here.
Regarding 135 meetings, I've attended exactly ONE. That was the one before the referendum. I presented a report showing that the root cause of the problems putting the kids at risk was NOT insufficient tax dollars but an out of control school board that unjustifiably and unsustainably gave out double digit raises to staff, thereby creating the "crisis". I did attend one candidate's forum, a few years back, and I was really impressed with the way it was handled. It's ridiculous that the same people who put that great forum at 135 are fighting against having that kind of accountability in 230.
Sadly, I guess that fighting for "public access" has a lot to do with whether it's in your political best interest or not.
FWIW, a few years ago I tried to get the Sandburg PFSA to support a 230 candidate's forum in 230, and they turned the idea down flat.

FWIW, based upon fiscal managment, educational achievement, and "political" issues, I really couldn't support any of the incumbents. The problem is that the challengers don't seem to have a real good bead on what to do about school improvement or cutting waste and patronage in the district either.
What I do know is that there's no way I'd vote for a teacher union rep, or teacher union member, to be on the board. When those putting the teacher union interest first are on BOTH sides of the negotiating table, the unions win and the kids and the taxpayers ALWAYS LOSE!

To OFF THE TOP, I can vouch for Bob. I attended many District 135 meetings, and I remember him being at ONLY the one he mentioned. And though Bob and I do not always agree, (okay rarely agree-LOL) he would never support the antics of Cunningham and Gentile-- and the $$$ wasted by their group. He even retracted his support for Baker (& twietmeyer) for 230 school board after he found information that would not be good for the taxpayers. So OFF, this time you are off.

Concerned, as a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana and someone who both took classes and taught math and science at MVCC, I can tell you that the quality of instruction at schools like MVCC, COD, and Harper JC is FAR better than you can get in the first two years at U of I.
In your first two years at U of I, classes like Chemistry, Physics and Calculus are rarely taught by 23 year old grad students who have taught little or never and had no interest in teaching as a career. Often your instructor was "English challenged" and was impossible to understand. Of course, the first two years at schools like U of I they are "culling the herd". They give such minimal educational support that effectively are teaching yourself the course. If you can teach yourself, you occasionally are taught by a professor in your last two years.
At quality JCs ALL instructors have an advanced degree, often have decades of professional experience, and WANT to teach!
Undergrad labs and facilities are typically far better at JCs as well.
JCs don't provide low price education...they provide quality education at low prices. There's a big difference there!
