New Trial Set For Accused 'Orland Ghost Rider'
Justin Jachimiec, whom police say is the wheelie-popping, police-fleeing motorcycle rider seen on YouTube, is scheduled to begin his trial on Feb. 6.
A new trial date for early February has been set for the 22-year-old man accused of being the Orland "Ghost Rider," a wheelie-popping motorcyclist who videoed himself fleeing police, clips of which were later found on YouTube.
Justin Jachimiec has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, including two counts of felony fleeing and eluding police and other traffic violations.
Jachimiec is currently in custody in the Cook County Department of Corrections on a no-bond order after he missed an October court date. A November trial date was postponed
Clad in standard khaki-colored jail garb, Jachimiec appeared in court Wednesday, and didn't speak during the hearing. Attorneys for both sides and Cook County Judge Carmen K. Aguilar agreed on Feb. 6 as the date for his jury trial.
Assistant State's Attorney Donna Norton also asked Aguilar for a status date before the trial to take care of any pre-trial motions and outstanding discovery. Norton said she is waiting on a response from AT&T regarding subpoenaed phone records.
Aguilar granted a final status date of Jan. 16, when Jachimiec is expected to be back in her Bridgeview courtroom.
Jachiemiec's attorney wasn't immediately available for comment after Wednesday's hearing.
The video that prosecutors say shows Jachiemic's antics surfaced on YouTube, posted under the user name “wheelerdrivebandit," where the rider is nicknamed the “Orland Ghost Rider” in the text. The account has since been taken down, though at least one of the videos remains online through a different user account.
Orland Park police arrested Jachimiec in March. Three months later, he was in McDonough County court for different charges of fleeing and eluding against him, and was acquitted.
