The old saying “good things come to those who wait” was on the mind of staffers at BMW of Orland Park before moving to their new home at 11030 W. 159th St.
"We had a lot of hurdles to get through," said General Sales Manager James Subka. "We had blueprints going back to 2007. We're here now and that's all that matters."
The dealership began as Evergreen Motor Cars in Evergreen Park, until they moved to Orland Park in 1997.
"We outgrew that and moved down here," said Supka.
Sunlight filters through glass on all four walls of the new 61,000 square foot facility, located on eight acres at 159th Street near Wolf Road.
"This is so much more than we ever had before,” Supka said. “Now we're able to merchandise everything in front."
A state of the art car wash that re-circulates and recycles water is among several efficient additions in the new facility.
"We wash every car that we service, including the loaner cars,” he said. “Technology has come a long way."
Supka said the BMW X3 sports utility vehicle is one of the most popular models they sell.
"It's been on Car & Drivers’ top ten list for the past 20 consecutive years,” Supka said. “Currently for 2012, it's been completely redesigned. It's a little larger than the previous model, more powerful and economic.”
Service hasn’t changed with the new location. The dealership still offers pick up and drop off service, and will provide loaner cars when engine or body work is needed.
Some have asked what will become of the former BMW facility on 159th, east of 94th Avenue.
"We're going to expand the other Mercedes franchise, which is the SmartCar and the Sprinter commercial vans,” Supka said. “The SmartCar is a compact, three-cylinder economical car featuring two seats."
Besides selling luxury cars, Supka explains the employees are also big into giving locally, and are involved with the Chicago Food Depository, Together We Cope in Tinley Park and the White Sox Charities.
In August, BMW of Orland Park is planning a big grand opening. For now, the invitation is open.
"I would love to have everyone stop by and see our new facility. Anyone who has purchased a car from us will be pleasantly surprised to see what we have now," Supka said. "The first day in here, doing business, was a big weight lifted off our shoulders. We're ready to go."
