Orland Man Charged in Connection With Tinley Carjacking
Tinley Park police arrested a man on Friday who they said played a part in stealing a car from an old lady after threatening to shoot her.
Police have arrested a man in connection with a carjacking that occurred last week outside a local dollar store.
Michael J. Kroll, 23, of Orland Park, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of vehicular hijacking, according to a news release sent today by Tinley Park police. He appeared in a Bridgeview courtroom this morning, where his bail was set at $750,000.
Though the report doesn't detail Kroll's role in the hijacking, it says charges stem from a Nov. 30 incident outside Dollar Tree on Harlem Avenue where two men approached a woman in her 90s and asked her for directions. The woman was getting into her car at the time, police said.
One of the men ordered the woman out of her 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass and grabbed her purse before driving away. The duo threatened to shoot the woman but didn't show a gun, police have said. The woman wasn't seriously injured.
An official from the Tinley Park Police Department was not immediately available for comment around 5 p.m.

A true idiot. Why would you try to carjack an elderly person? What in the world has she ever done to you. You are a boil on the butt of humanity!

If Illinois was NOT the only state in the U.S. without concealed-carry, there would be hope that the victim would have pulled out her piece and dispatched this miserable POS straight to hell. But no. Our legislators know better. Once again it is demonstrated - when seconds matter, help is only minutes away.

I feel for crimes like these, there should be an additional punishment of being kicked in the testicles. His parents must be proud.

Please, in future, avoid the disrespectful term "old lady." We "old ladies" are sensitive about the way you young whippersnappers portray us. "Elderly woman" or the gender- neutral terms "senior citizen" or "90-year-old" are preferable.
