Orland Man Indicted for Carjacking Elderly Woman in Tinley
Aside from pleading guilty to the incident in which he targeted a woman who was in her 90s, Michael J. Kroll, 23, of Orland Park, also pleaded guilty to theft earlier this year. His rap sheets includes jail time for possession, records show.
An Orland Park man has been indicted on multiple counts of hijacking and battery for his alleged role in a motor vehicle theft involving a woman who was in her 90s.
Tinley Park police said Michael J. Kroll, 23, of the 9100 block Brookside Court, and another man, approached a senior citizen outside the Dollar Tree on Harlem Avenue on Nov. 30, 2011, asking for directions.
The duo then allegedly threatened to shoot her—though they didn’t show a gun—and escaped with her car and her purse. She escaped with minor cuts on her hands after being tossed out of her 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass, police said.
Tinley Park police arrested Kroll two days later with the help of Orland Park detectives, who had been looking for him since October. He stole jewelry from his own home earlier in the year, Orland Park Police Cmdr. John Keating said.
Kroll was processed for both incidents and slapped with a $750,000 bond.
Court records show that Kroll was sentenced to one year in jail in 2010 for possession of a controlled substance. Three years prior, he pleaded guilty to theft and criminal trespassing, and walked with supervision.
Moreover, Markham police arrested him in 2007 for illegally entering a car, but the charges were later dropped.
He pleaded guilty to theft on Jan. 5, 2012, and was sentenced to the number of days he had already sat in jail since getting picked up again.
He’s due back in court on Jan. 19 on the charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, vehicular hijacking, possession of stolen vehicle, and four counts of aggravated battery.
The second man in the hijacking was described as white, in his 20s, with medium build. Tinley Park police said they have no other leads at present.

This is what career opiate addicts do. They can't stop using. 99.9 % of opiate users use cannabis. Our Illinois politicians decriminalize and plan to legalize cannabis . Instead of conducting state drug rehab to lower crime and increase a civil and productive society, they legalize dope. Illinois politicians are the dopes.

Or he's 23 and a lost soul. Does he deserve whatever sentence he gets...YES! But, Robert to blame his faults & trouble on cannabis is just plain ignorant.

Dumb kid. Anyone less than 75yrs old behind the wheel of an Oldsmobile should be suspected of hijacking the car.
