Orland Park Girl Dies After Car Accident

A 17-year-old girl, who was struck by a car Friday in Olympia Fields, died from injuries Monday afternoon, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

An Orland Park teenager died Monday afternoon after she was struck by a car in Olympia Fields early Friday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Rosabell Gutierrez, 17, died while being treated at Stroger Hospital at 3:31 p.m. Monday, according to the medical examiner's office.

The Olympia Fields Police Department were called about a vehicle crash in the 3600 block of Lincoln Highway around 5 a.m. Friday. Officers found that Gutierrez was walking in the roadway, and was struck by a car, according to a release from the Olympia Fields Police Department.

She was first taken to St. James Hospital before being airlifted to Stroger.

Officers later found that she was at a party in Park Forest before the accident with Lemanuel J. Pitts, 21, of the 100 block of Illinois Street in Park Forest, according to the release. Pitts was charged with providing liquor to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, no additional charges were filed against Pitts and Gutierrez's condition had not changed since Friday, Olympia Fields Police Chief John Krull said.

What a tragedy! Perhaps some good can come of this. Parents, it's not a good idea to let your 17 year olds stay out all night with people from unfamiliar neighborhoods, especially with older people who will give them intoxicants.

Many 17 year olds are still kids. They need oversight and direction to keep themselves out of bad situations. Even innocent kids can be hurt getting into this kind of situation.

Parents, when your kids are planning to be out all night, MAKE SURE you know where they're at and who they're with. It isn't easy, but it's necessary.

My thoughts and prayers are with this poor girl's surviving family. May they find peace in these times of trouble and pain.

Was this a hit and run? There's nothing here about the car and driver that hit her.

In a previous article it said the driver stopped and called police. I'm guessing she was in the middle of the road? But after all it is such a tragedy because I feel like this could have been avoided... My thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family...

And the 21 year old should be charged with involuntary manslaughter because when he decided to take a minor to that party he assumed responsibility for her. She was walking down the middle of the road in Olympia fields, quite always from that part at a early morning hour...where was this so called 21 year old man that took her from Orland Park out here? Why was she stumbling along intoxicated and not being looked after? Makes me sick he will get off
