Orland Park Man Claims Treats Killed Dog

Dennis Adkins is suing Nestle Purina, the company that manufactures the treats he claims led to the death of his Pomeranian, CBS reports.

Orland Park resident Dennis Adkins is suing a pet food company he claims is responsible for the death of his 9-year-old Pomeranian, Cleopatra.

The company, Nestle Purina, produced the Yam Good treats he fed Cleopatra for three days before she fell ill. She died of kidney failure 11 days later, on March 26, CBS reports

The man has subsequently filed a lawsuit against Nestle Purina subsidiary Waggin' Train and the Walmart store where he purchased the treats, according to the report.

The Yam Good treats are described as wholesome yams wrapped with chicken, and are made in China, according to the Waggin' Train website. The Food and Drug Administration warned pet owners in November that some dogs who had consumed chicken jerky treats manufactured in China had become sick.

The lawsuit claims negligence and product liability, among several other counts. Damages sought could exceed $5 million.
