SATURDAY, JULY 28
Walking Away From a Crash
Police were called about a car accident in the 16700 block of Summercrest Avenue around 9:10 p.m. An officer saw a woman walking in the middle of the street away from a vehicle stopped on the street’s south side with the door open, and with significant passenger side damage to the car, police said. A man at the scene told police that the woman tried to drive away after the accident, but he blocked her car and that’s why she was walking away, according to the report. The woman failed field sobriety tests and her breath smelled like alcohol, police said. Laura D. DeVries, 44, of the 16700 block of Summercrest Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving an uninsured vehicle and texting while driving.
FRIDAY, JULY 27
Police were called about a retail theft at JCPenney around 4 p.m. Security said two women were seen taking several dresses into a dressing room, and then taking underwear into the room, police said. One woman emerged from the dressing room looking bigger than when she went in, and the two bought a couple items on store credit before leaving the store, police said. One woman gave officers a false name and a warrant was found for the other, police said. Together the women had $477 worth of unpaid merchandise on them, according to the report. Mekeisha L. Polk, 21, of the 15600 block of Loomis Avenue in Harvey, was charged with retail theft and obstructing identification. Willice L. Sears, 24, of the 9000 block of Racine Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft and arrested on an Effingham warrant for fraud.
THURSDAY, JULY 26

Police were called to Carson Pirie Scott about a retail theft around 7:55 p.m. Security saw a man take a shirt off a hanger, remove the tags, spray it with cologne from a display bottle and try to return the shirt to a cashier, according to the report. Based on past convictions, the man was charged with a felony, police said. Daniel J. Luedke, 48, of the 3400 block of Addison Street in Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft.
Police were called about a man in Will County Jail who was wanted on an Orland Park warrant around 3 a.m. Paul J. Schenk, 34 of the 300 block of East Washington Street in Joliet, was arrested on a warrant for retail theft.
Police were called about a man wanted on an Orland Park warrant in Calumet City police’s custody around 8:20 a.m. Andrew M. Lewis, 24, of the 500 block of Inghram Street in Calumet City, was arrested on a warrant for retail theft.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 25
Police were called to Sears about a retail theft around 5:45 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking two boxes of cologne and concealing them in her purse before leaving the store without paying for them, according to the report. An officer then found two pipes and a small plastic baggie with marijuana in it on her, police said. Deeanna M. Grimes, 18, of the 1900 block of Claire Drive in Bourbonnais, was charged with retail theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
