Orland Park police reports: Jan. 10-24
TUESDAY, JAN. 24
Boombox Truck
Police were called about a parked SUV playing loud music around 4:05 a.m. in the 9000 block of Lunar Court. An officer saw a red SUV parked with the windows down, and heard loud music coming from it, according to the report. The officer pulled up to the SUV, and the vehicle started driving away, though the officer yelled for the driver to stop and he did, police said. The officer smelled alcohol while standing near the driver, and also saw an open beer can in the console, as well as several empty cans inside the SUV, police said. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was uncooperative, police said. Juan C. Cruz-Hernandez, 25, of the 5000 block of 159th Street in Oak Forest, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol.
Close Curb
Police pulled over a car after seeing it swerve and almost hit a curb, as well as driving 30 mph in a 20 mph zone, at Westminster Drive and Waterford Lane around 11:50 p.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, she had trouble finding items in her car and later failed field sobriety tests, police said. Marjorie L. Amerio, 44, of the 9200 block of Whitehall Lane in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, speeding and failure to notify about an address change.
MONDAY, JAN. 23
Grab, Run, Struggle
Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 11:05 a.m. Security said a woman was seen taking clothing items and placing them into a Macy’s bag, before leaving the store without paying, according to the report. Security also said the woman ran from them as they tried to stop her, according to the report. The woman drove away in a blue Toyota Camry, and an officer attempted pulling her over but she kept driving, police said. She was finally pulled over in the 14400 block of Crystal Tree Lane, police said. Once pulled over, police found Macy’s items without proof of purchase, and the woman struggled with officers when they tried to handcuff her, and place her into a squad car, according to the report. Sharad Madhav, 64, of the 14700 block of Crystal Tree Drive in Orland Park, was charged with retail theft and resisting arrest.
FRIDAY, JAN. 20
Window Peeping
Police were called about a man walking in the backyard of a house in the 11300 block of Longwood Circle around 10:45 p.m. An officer followed a trail of footprints in snow to a nearby field and back toward the house, before a man was seen walking between two houses, according to the report. The officer called out to the man to stop and walk towards him, but the man took off running, police said. He slipped and fell, and the officer put handcuffs on him, according to the report. One of the nearby residents said the man was staring at her through her window, police said. Dwayne E. Gilley, 52, of the first block of W. Division Street in Manteno, was cited with disorderly conduct, and was instructed not to return to the residence.
Bottle Bust
Police were called about a retail theft at Hollister around 5:45 p.m. Store security said two women were seen placing a bottle of perfume each into their coats and leaving the store without paying, according to the report. Each bottle is worth $44. Janine A. Jackson, 21, of the 14800 block of Morgan Street in Harvey, and Keanna M. Williams, 20, of the 15000 block of South Wood Street in Harvey, were each cited with retail theft.
TUESDAY JAN. 10
Marijuana Baggie Found
Police pulled over a car for driving without a working rear registration light on Mallard Road north of 143rd Street around 1:40 a.m. The driver did not have a valid license, and a small baggie of marijuana was found on him, police said. Esvin E. Miranda, 27, of the 1600 block of President Drive in Glendale Heights, was charged with driving without a rear registration light and driving without a valid license. He was also cited for possession of marijuana.
