The Village of Orland Park remembered fallen soldiers and honored veterans at the Orland Park Veterans Memorial Ara Pace on Memorial Day.
Mayor Dan McLaughlin spoke of how it is heartwarming to come out of the offices and see visitors at Ara Pace. He thanked all of the service men and women and thanked the crowd for coming out on such a hot day in "gale-force winds" to remember what Memorial Day is really about.
The memorial at Village Hall has several large stones with names engraved on them for both the living and deceased veterans of the community. This year, 14 new names were added.
The names are as follows:
George Chris, Sr.
George Chris, Jr.
Thomas W. Adams
Patrick J. Rafferty
Robert E. Buhs
Adam E. Wydra
Danile Charles Tynan
Leigh A. Hornbach
Harold J. Tolliver
Robert A. Janus
The Honor Guard consisted of Boy Scout Troop 383 and Cub Scout Pack 383 members. The boys also served as hosts, passing out programs and cups of cold water to the warm and thirsty gatherers.
U.S. Congressman Dan Lipinski thanked the service men and women and remebered fallen heros. He urged the crowd to "remind people of what Memorial Day is really about" while attending the days festivities with family and friends.
