Orland Township Mostly Voted Republican in 2010 Election
With the numbers in, we take a look at whether the township swung left or right, and the results are rather red.
Orland Township's election results are as red as a slab of raw beef, peppered with small bits of blue.
Contrary to a local media report, the township has maintained its traditional Republican-leaning with very few exceptions.
Although Republicans Barbara Bellar (State Rep., 35th District) and Adam Wojcik (State Sen., 19th District) lost their respective races, they won the support of the majority of voters within their sections of Orland Township. Both Bellar and Wojcik garnered 59 percent of the vote, compared to their opponents' 40 percent.
In other words, Democrats Maggie Crotty and Bill Cunningham held on to seats that were either theirs already or occupied by other Democrats because of voters outside the Township.
Democrat Kevin McCarthy (State Rep., 37th District) defeated Republican Jeff Junkas, but it should be noted, again, this is a seat that McCarthy has held for 13 years. He edged out Junkas within Orland Township by only 117 votes, or 0.6 percent of the vote.
The race to fill President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat went the way of the elephant as well in Orland, with Mark Kirk bringing in 61 percent from local voters compared to Alexi Giannoulias' 33 percent.
And if Orland had final say in the battle between Republican Bill Brady and Democrat Pat Quinn for Illinois governor, Brady already would be redecorating the governor's mansion in Springfield thanks to 57 percent of Orland Township's vote compared to Quinn's 36 percent.
