PHOTO GALLERY: Calvary Church Throws Party for 125th Anniversary
Over 2,000 people showed up to Calvary Church Family Fun Day in Orland Park.
Calvary Church members said they prayed for the rain to stay away for their party that had been planned for a year.
As Family Fun Day opened, antique cars pulled into the church parking lot under the rays of sunshine, in order for a church celebrating 125 years. By 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, families trickled in to view a magic show by Frank O'Neal, play carnival games with free goldfish as prizes and bouncing houses in the sanctuary, all while mom could sneak away to get a massage and facial compliments of SouthWest Laser & MedSpa from Mokena. By 1 p.m., it was hard to find a seat at the Traveling World of Reptiles by Dave DiNaso show.
Over 2,000 people came to take part in a day filled with sunshine, hay rides, pony rides, Xbox tournaments and other fun. Lunch was on Calvary Church, at one point it was an hour wait to get the hamburger offered, but there were no complaints heard.
The church doors were open to showcase the beautiful new facility, where inflatable bouncing houses filled the sanctuary for one day. As people enjoyed free snow cones and nachos while getting in the last hay ride, dark clouds rolled in. It was almost 3 p.m., and time for the fest to close as the drops started falling.
One Calvary member said, "We prayed for the rain to stay away and now that it's over, God's helping clean up the mess."
