Orland Park police reports, May 11-15
SUNDAY, MAY 15
Retail Theft at JC Penney
Algenoy K. Harris, 18, of the 2700 block of West 76th Street in Chicago, and Matthew V. Sumo, 18, of the 10800 block of S. Prospect Road in Chicago, were arrested on charges of retail theft, police said. According to the report, loss prevention at JC Penney in Orland Square Mall saw Harris and Sumo enter changing rooms with merchandise. They were stopped by loss prevention in the mall. Sumo was cited and released at the scene. He is due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center on June 14. Harris was charged with retail theft and criminal damage to property—for a security ink tag that had been released—and is due in court in Bridgeview on June 14.
SATURDAY, MAY 14
DUI and Underage Possession of Alcohol
Jacob R. Foster, 18, of the 5200 block of S. Mayfield Avenue in Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and Robert V. Doylida, 18, of the 5700 block of S. Massasoit Avenue in Chicago, and Troy R. Torrence, 18, of the 5700 block of S. Menard Avenue in Chicago, were cited for underage possession of alcohol, police said. According to the report, the car was initially pulled over for an expired license plate near 159th Street at 80th Avenue. The officer smelled alcohol and saw an open can of beer on the floor and another under a seat, according to the report. Foster, who was driving, failed field sobriety tests and blew greater than .08 in a breath test. Foster also was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol. He is due in court in Bridgeview on May 31. Doylida and Torrence are due in local court at the Orland Park Civic Center on May 14.
FRIDAY, MAY 13
Kicking the Car
Janine H. Hudson, 28, of the 500 block of S. Pulaski Road in Calumet City, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to a vehicle, police said. Police responded to a call regarding an argument in the Orland Square Mall parking lot. According to the report, Hudson was arguing with a 23-year-old female about some clothing he had left in her car. He left the scene, but police caught up to him and later arrested him. Hudson admitted to losing his temper and kicking the car, which caused a dent, according to the report. He is due in court June 8 in Bridgeview. He was released on bail.
Aggravated DUI
Mark G. Bzdyk, 36, of the 11500 block of Brookwood Drive in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. According to the report, police responded to reports of a car swerving and weaving near 145th and LaGrange Road. Police followed Bzdyk to a restaurant near Orland Square Mall, where he was later given field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to the report. Police saw that this was Bzdyk's third offense for driving under the influence of alcohol. The assistant state's attorney approved the felony charges. He had a hearing in Bridgeview on May 14.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 11
Texting Under the Influence
Kristen D. Kozik, 19, of the 13900 block of South 84th Avenue in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, police said. Police responded to a caller reporting a reckless driver near 151st Street and 94th Avenue. According to the report, the responding officer got there to see that an accident had just happened. Kozik ran a red light and struck a van, police said. Her speech was slurred, according to the report. A man said that Kozik picked him up from a methadone clinic and was driving him home. He said Kozik was texting and had blown the red light and struck the van. Kozik later told paramedics that she had taken methadone and Oxycontin, the report said. She was released on an I-bond at Silver Cross Hospital where she was being treated. She is due in court in Bridgeview on June 8.
