Police Searching For Man Who Stole Car with BB Gun
A Will County man and a woman stole a car from an employee at an Orland Park restaurant late Monday night. Police are still searching for the man.
Police are looking for a man who held up an Orland Park restaurant employee with a BB pistol, and fled the scene in the employee's car.
The Orland Park Police Department were called about an armed robbery at Red Lobster, 14750 LaGrange Rd., around 11:55 p.m. Monday, according to Orland Park Police Sgt. Scott Malmborg.
An employee was about to drive away from the restaurant parking lot, when a man pulled out a replica Beretta pistol that fires BB pellets, pressed the gun against the female employee's chest, and demanded that she step out of car, Malmborg said.
"He told her repeatedly 'don't look at me, don't look at me,' and told her to leave her purse in the car," Malmborg said.
The employee stepped out of the car, the robber got into the driver's seat, and a woman with the robber got into the passenger seat. The two then drove away, heading south on LaGrange Road, Malmborg said. The robber turned right heading west on 167th Street and turned again onto Liberty Drive, where they hit a dead end, Malmborg said.
The man fled the scene on foot while the car was still rolling, leaving the pistol and all of the employee's belongings behind. The woman passenger fell out of the car and was apprehended, Malmborg said.
The robber was able to escape the area, even as a perimeter was set up, and authorities are still searching for him. A helicopter searched for him early Tuesday morning, hovering over LaGrange Road and 167th Street.
Police identified the man as Jonathan Sarolas, 23, of the 13500 block of Erin Drive in Homer Glen.
Sarolas is described as:
- White
- 6-feet, 5-inches
- 190 pounds
- Wearing a white T-shirt and black jogging pants with a white stripe down each leg
Sarolas has had prior contact with police, Malmborg said. Police were still looking for him as of 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Police need to post his photo on social media saying "Call us if you see him" and he'll be found. And park a squad outside his house. He's got to go home sometime.

Looks like yet another Homer kid that has traveled the Heroin Highway . I feel so bad for all the parents and the kids that have put themselves as victims. The kids and young adults are dying one after another with this garbage! I will bet you that this kid is from a good family. Please don't crucify him with your words on here. If I am right about this he is crucified daily.

Sorry Beverly- he's a thug that deserves whatever he gets, here and eventually in court. If he has a drug problem, he needs to deal with it, not victimize hardworking people trying to make a living. I look forward to hearing that they've caught this loser and put him behind bars for an extended stay.

So that's why they called and woke me up at 2:30 in the morning - really? I'd prefer to be left sleeping.

I actually appreciated the call. Yes it woke me up but so would have the helicopter and search lights from above. I turned on my outdoor lighting, both back and front as I live near the area of 167th and LaGrange.

I've got family members who say they are afraid to go to Orland anymore- now that's sad. Can't even shop anymore.

The part of not shopping in Orland because it is too dangerous. We are talking about Orland Park not Humboldt Park.

Ralph - that is extreme to claim Orland is ghetto. I am really tired of hearing people say if you go into Orland you'll get mugged, attacked, and so on. It's BS. Every town that has a mall is going to have some crime. Period. Look at when Target first went into Tinley, there were how many car jacking's and not to mention the murders at Lane Bryant. It's not a ghetto area, I am a small woman who is not afraid to shop there on a regular basis. I do not feel threatened ever. What happened here to this poor girl was literally, wrong place, wrong time. Red Lobster does not need to worry about getting security for their employees. I guarantee you, if an employee anywhere was scared to walk to their car, they'd be able to have someone walk them out there. This kid needs his booty beaten and if he is on drugs, sent off to rehab. If he is on heroin (which no where in this article claims that, but people jump to that conclusion) his parents know. If you've ever seen someone with a heroin addiction, you're in denial if you think they aren't. Especially if they live under your roof. Orland Park is a great place to live and I love it and feel 100% safe.

That's just misguided. OP is not even close to being a place where you fear for your general safety. Please tell- where can you go that is crime free?

why is'nt this kind of crime reported by the media? it would inform people what to look out for . what kind of security is red lobster going to have for their employes ?

Orland Park isn't a tiny town as it once was. There is so much commerce here with the numerous stores and restaurants. We'd be naive to think that crime wouldn't touch us here in one form or another. I am not afraid to live or shop here but I am aware of my surroundings. I've never thought "it's OP. Nothing will happen here." Doesn't matter where you live anymore.... people will always try do what they can get away with.
