Property Tax Rebate Applications Start Oct. 29
Orland Park property owners will have until Dec. 14 to submit the applications, which can be sent in online, through mail or in person at the village hall.
Orland Park village staff detailed plans Monday night to distribute a $2.5 million property tax rebate to property owners, with the applications starting at the end of October.
Starting 8 a.m. on Oct. 29, Orland Park property owners will be able to either submit the application online through www.optaxrebate.com, print the application out and either mail it or submit in person, or visit Frederick T. Owens Village Hall during regular hours and get assistance from staff in submitting the forms. The link www.optaxrebate.com will not go live until 8 a.m. Oct. 29.
Property owners will need copies of a property tax bill, their driver’s license and a utility bill to finish the application.
The deadline for submitting the application is Dec. 14, according to finance director Annmarie Mampe.
“The first thing residents will do when they get to the (web) page is type in their Cook County PIN number,” Mampe said. “That’s the only PIN number that will be used. It will automatically validate that’s a valid PIN number in the Village of Orland Park. Only with a valid PIN number will the rest of the application populate and they will be able to fill it out.”
Residents currently using the village online payment system for water bills will be able to enter their water bill account number instead of a utility bill, if they apply for the rebate online.
People who want to use a printed hard copy to apply can either print out the application from the rebate website, or pick up a copy at village hall, the Orland Park Public Library, the Sportsplex and the Recreation Department, said Public Information Officer Joe LaMargo.
Property owners who need a hand with the application can come to the village hall, with their license and bill copies, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during weekdays between Oct. 29 and Dec. 14. Village staff will be on hand with a computer and scanner to assist people in completing the application.
Staff has estimated that if 19,000 Orland Park property owners apply for the rebate, each will receive about $131. Payments are scheduled to happen by March 2013.
The village will be sending postcards to remind property owners of the rebate application shortly before Oct. 29.
Further notices will go out on the village’s Channel 4 public access station, and through releases to local media around Oct. 29.
Reminders will also be sent again before the Dec. 14 deadline.
