Gas prices in Illinois have reached a record high for February, according to AAA Chicago.

The average price in Illinois rose to an average of $3.62 earlier this month, the motor club reports. This is the highest start for the month of February ever.

January was nearly as tough on the wallet for motorists. AAA said last month saw the second highest average ever recorded.

Cook County fared better than the rest of the state. Regular unleaded averaged $3.53, dropping $0.02 from last month and $.14 from last year, according to the motor club.
