VIDEO: School Bus Crashes Into Orland Junior High

No injuries were reported and no students were aboard a school bus when it broke through the side of Orland Junior High School into a science room late Thursday afternoon.

A school bus coming from Tinley Park Central Middle School crashed into the Orland Junior High School building around 5 p.m. Thursday, breaking through a science room wall.

No students were on board at the time, and neither the driver nor anyone inside the building reported any injuries, according to Orland School District 135 spokeswoman Bridget McGuiggan. The bus was on site for a volleyball game at the school, McGuiggan said.

The crash caused a water leak and cracks extending to a door built into the wall, District 135 Assistant Superintendent of Business Services John Reiniche said.

Meanwhile, school will be in session Friday, and student schedules are being reviewed to determine whether changes are needed.

The driver said she veered right to avoid pedestrians and cars in the parking lot when she noticed the brakes were stuck and not responding, Orland Park Police Sgt. Tim McCormick said. The driver was immediately tested for alcohol use, and the test showed the driver was completely sober at the time.

"This could've been a lot worse," McCormick said.

District 135 administrators and maintenance crews were immediately on the scene, along with Orland Park police and fire personnel.
