Uncle Julio’s to Open in Harrison’s Space

Harrison’s Restaurant and Brewery has closed its doors at 15845 S. LaGrange Road. The building is now undergoing an extensive renovation and will be reopening as Uncle Julio’s Fine Mexican Food.

The Orland Park location will be the 19th restaurant for the Dallas, Texas-based chain, and will be the third in Illinois along with restaurants in Lombard and on North Avenue near Clybourn Avenue in Chicago.

Uncle Julio’s has already submitted for building permit plans and an appearance review, and are planning to open in summer, according to Orland Park Public Information Officer Joe LaMargo.

Harrison’s owners still own the property next to Target, and will be leasing to Uncle Julio’s, but whether Harrison’s will reopen somewhere else in town isn’t known yet, LaMargo said.

A man at Harrison’s Friday said the remodeling is scheduled to be done in April, but would not provide any further specifics about the brewery.

Starbucks Closed in Orland Park

One of four stand-alone Starbucks locations in Orland Park closed recently at 15833 S. La Grange Road.

A hand-written sign posted on the door reads:

"Sorry for the inconvenience but we are closed. Please visit us at our other location on 143rd and LaGrange."

Avea Inc. Coming to Palos

Avea Inc., a custom audio/video company, is currently in the process of relocating from its location in Midlothian to a new space at 12331 Harlem Ave. in Palos Heights.

The company specializes in smart homes, lighting control and home theater installation, according to the Avea website.

I can tell you've never eaten at Uncle Julio's or you would not make that statement. What Orland Park lacks is a great Mexican restaurant.

You obviously are not familiar with the restaurant. It's great Tex-Mex food. It is not a burrito stand. I suggest you visit their one of their locations in the western suburbs or on the north side of the city. I believe you'll like it much better than the Mexican restaurants currently in Orland.

yes, in my long life I have tried many Mexican restaurants. Does not mean I eat at them everyday. There's a difference. Does not mean I am over weight or unhealthy.

Have eaten at the one downtown. Always a good meal, more upscale than your basic Mexican fare. Its more Tex-Mex.

Found it to be generic food and wayyyyyyy over priced but that is the definition of "up scale".

Over priced chain Mexican food is not what this area needs as stated above there are a ton of high quality affordable Mexican restaurants in the area many that are locally owned small businesses as was Harrison's. It is a shame to have another "Olive Garden" take away from locally owned businesses.

Casa Margarita, Burrito Jalisco, La Mex, El Puelito, and the many small store front shops look around.

Googled the ones you listed, all chains. Never heard of the last one. But I have dined at the others and did not walk out of there saying "That was good". Therefore, I don't eat there. Great Mexican food is hard to come by. Dave, if you think those are great, take the Uncle Julio's challenge and you'll know what I am talking about.

Karen-
Having two locations does not make a chain. I happen to know for a fact that the Burrito Jalisco owners live in the area their kids play baseball in Tinley Park. Casa Margarita owners live in LaGrange I believe. La Mex only two locations. They are not chains but family run businesses. Go in and ask them sometime and get out of the corporate foodie bubble. I don't know what Google you are using...I have tried it in Chicago and found it underwhelming and over priced.

I am far from the 'corporate foodie bubble' as they get. I rarely eat food I do not personally cook. My point was, these other restaurants are not good. The food is mediocre at best. I wouldn't even consider Olive Garden Italian Food. It's disgusting. As much as I enjoy dining at Uncle Julio's, I will most likely only dine there once or twice a year.

Are you counting the Pontiac location as one of the two for La Mex?

Its a shame that Harrison's couldn't make it work, but to compare this restaurant with the Olive Garden chain is not a correct assessment. Last time I checked, honey glazed salmon and frog legs are not at your local burrito stand. You may want to actually eat at the restaurant before you go labeling it. The tuna ceviche tartar appetizer is excellent, IMO.

I have eaten at the one in Chicago and found it to be over priced chain food. Just like the rest of the so called "up scale" restaurants in Orland Park. All generic chains with menus designed by corporate chefs for consistency across several units nationwide. as for upscale usually just means overpriced as Uncle Julios is, aka Olive Garden.

Ok, if we have to split hairs...Olive Garden has thousands of locations across the country off of every expressway exit like a Holiday Inn. Uncle Julio's only has 15 in four states. So, no it's not the same. Second, we'll go to the more upscale Mexican restaurant and you can support the burrito stands and we'll call it even.

JC thanks for making my point locations across the nation and I will support local businesses when I can. At least I have tried Uncle Julios and found it underwhelming and over priced which I can see that you have not tried local places or you would know they are far from burrito stands.

So you didn't mind that there were three brewery restaurants just down the street from each other basically churning out the same food, but having another Mexican restaurant is bad? I'm really not sure what the problem is in having another tax paying business on the books rather than an vacant building. If those other places have a loyal client base then there is no problem.

P.S. Did you boycott Red Robin, Longhorn and Chic Fil A too?

I have never been to Rock Bottom or Granite City. I do go to Chick-fil-A because they do a lot of positive things in the community and I support that. Never have been to Red Robin or Longhorn. All of these places are chains so you miss my point, I prefer lo support locally owned businesses rather than chains. Usually always better food and better service.

The owners of Ottimo in Orland will also be opening a Mexican restaurant, right next door to their current location. It should be awesome.

David S....and you have missed my point as well. The majority of restaurants in the Orland area are chains. Oh, and I forgot to mention Coopershawk, Houlihans, Famous Daves, Panera, etc. Every one has different tastes, and if one would rather go to La Mex rather than Uncle Julio's, that's great. Wouldn't you want diversity and choices with businesses on the tax rolls providing jobs rather than empty buildings? I applaud it and welcome it in a heartbeat.

I do not see Harrison's honoring any GC"s. They went out of business, they let the quality in food and drinks really slip. The family did not even tell the employees. Seems to me they really do not care what happens to the GC's. Closed for remodeling?? Yep. more deception by Harrison's!!
