WATCH: Demo of Social Media for Schools Piloted in D135

Liberty technology teacher Chris Bohula is testing a new secure Facebook-like social media platform to help students increase their typing skills.

Edmodo might look like Facebook, but there are a lot of differences.

Liberty technology teacher Chris Bohula presented several findings from using the platform with school students and their parents, during Monday night’s Orland School District 135 board meeting. Bohula found the system allowed a lot more digital interaction, and not one case of bullying or misuse was found during an entire quarter.

Bohula said during the meeting that the system can help teach “digital citizenship” and since a record is made of everyone’s interactions, it also can teach accountability.

"This is almost safer than the playground, because there's no accountability on the playground," Bohula said. "Everything here is recorded.”
