A pedestrian was treated for non-critical injuries after a woman pressed her gas pedal while parking at an Orland Park Post Office, and drove onto the curb striking the pedestrian and the building.
A 92-year-old Orland Park woman accidentally pressed her gas pedal instead of the brake while parking Saturday at an Orland Park Post Office, causing her to drive up on to the sidewalk.
Emergency teams were called to the United States Post Office at 9500 W. 144th Place around 10:55 a.m. about a car versus pedestrian accident. The driver was parking her 2004 Ford at the post office, and drove up onto the sidewalk after pressing her gas pedal instead of the brake, according to Orland Park Police Commander John Keating.
The woman struck a 25-year-old Orland Park woman and ran into the post office’s brick front wall before stopping, Keating wrote in an email.
Both the driver and pedestrian were taken to Palos Community Hospital. The driver wasn’t injured and the pedestrian experienced non-critical injuries, Keating wrote.
Extent of the damage caused was not immediately available.
