DESCRIPTION:The Village of Orland Park will join communities across the c
 ountry when it observes National Night Out on Tuesday\, August 7\, 2012.
 \nThe Orland Park Police Department will host &ldquo\;Orland Park&rsquo\
 ;s Night Out Against Crime&rdquo\; from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Or
 land Park Village Center\, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue\, one block west o
 f LaGrange Road/U.S. Route 45.\n&ldquo\;National Night Out in Orland Par
 k is an annual favorite\,&rdquo\; said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin.
  &ldquo\;Families like to come up to the Village Center to meet the emer
 gency personnel\, see the equipment close up and enjoy an evening of act
 ivities\,&rdquo\; he said.\nArea seniors are invited to begin the day&rs
 quo\;s festivities at the free luncheon hosted by the Police Department 
 at the Orland Park Civic Center\, 14750 South Ravinia Avenue. Lunch will
  be served beginning at noon with a brief safety presentation. Seniors a
 re invited to see the Police Department&rsquo\;s newest equipment\, meet
  officers and view the department&rsquo\;s displays.\nReservations are r
 equired for the free &ldquo\;National Night Out Against Crime Lunch for 
 Seniors&rdquo\; and may be made by calling 708/364-8149. Attendees are a
 sked to leave their names and the number of guests.\n&ldquo\;August 7th 
 will be a very safety oriented day in Orland Park\,&rdquo\; said Trustee
  Carole Griffin Ruzich\, chair of the village&rsquo\;s Public Safety Com
 mittee. &ldquo\;We invite area seniors to the free luncheon where they w
 ill hear from local law enforcement officials and everyone is invited to
  enjoy the evening fun at National Night Out. It&rsquo\;s nice for the k
 ids to meet the emergency responders in a comfortable\, informal setting
 \,&rdquo\; she said.\nNational Night Out is an evening of activities for
  all ages\, along with opportunities to learn more about public and pers
 onal safety. Residents across the country are encouraged to turn on thei
 r porch lights as a statement against crime before joining the festiviti
 es held in their towns.\n&ldquo\;Orland Park&rsquo\;s National Night Out
  festivities heighten the awareness of our residents and businesses\, he
 lping them learn what they can do to help prevent crime\,&rdquo\; said O
 rland Park Police Chief Timothy McCarthy. &ldquo\;The night&rsquo\;s act
 ivities are directed\, to a large extent\, to the children in our commun
 ity to encourage them to be alert for criminal activity and to make them
  more comfortable with the police in an informal\, fun environment\,&rdq
 uo\; McCarthy added.\nOrland Park&rsquo\;s activities will include bicyc
 le registration and visits with the Orland Park Police Department Bike P
 atrol Officers. Free gun locks along with firearms safety information wi
 ll be available and parents may obtain DNA identification kits that pare
 nts keep for their children. The Police Department&rsquo\;s D.A.R.E. (Dr
 ug Abuse Resistance Education) officers will be on hand\, as will the de
 partment&rsquo\;s school resource officers.\nThe Police Department is co
 nducting a community wide push for residents to register their bicycles 
 for free with the department.\n&ldquo\;It&rsquo\;s easier to find the ow
 ner of a lost or stolen bike that&rsquo\;s registered with the Police De
 partment\,&rdquo\; said Officer Chuck Barth. Bicycle registration is ava
 ilable at the front desk of the police station\, 15100 South Ravinia Ave
 nue\, will be available at National Night Out and is also available at t
 he department&rsquo\;s Trailer In The Park events.\nArea residents who h
 ave had bicycles lost or stolen are encouraged to call the Police Depart
 ment at 349-4111 with a description of the bicycle so evidence officers 
 can determine if the bike was turned in to the department. Unclaimed bic
 ycles are donated to area charitable organizations.\nThis year&rsquo\;s 
 National Night Out will also include a free community document shred\, p
 rovided by ProShred\, an Orland Park based mobile document destruction c
 ompany. Families are invited to bring 100 pounds of documents to Nationa
 l Night Out to have them shredded for free as part of the Orland Park Po
 lice Department&rsquo\;s Identity Theft Prevention Program.\nDisposal re
 ceptacles will be available for discarded\, un-needed or unused controll
 ed\, un-controlled and over the counter medications\, including liquids 
 and syringes.\nThe free event will feature representatives from the Orla
 nd Fire Protection District\, a disc jockey from Electric Blue Entertain
 ment\, contests\, prizes\, raffles\, Mr. D&rsquo\;s Magic Show and Jim N
 esci&rsquo\;s Cold Blooded Creatures. Additional information is availabl
