An Event to Benefit the Community: The Fifth Annual Orland Park Gridiron Golf Classic

The Sandburg High School Football and Pioneer Youth Football programs are once again together to host the Fifth Annual Orland Park Gridiron Golf Classic on Thursday, June 28th, at Silver Lake Country Club.  This event has truly grown into one of Orland Park’s premier golf outings, attracting more than 200 golfers and numerous sponsors throughout the greater Chicagoland area!

This year’s event will commence with a complimentary continental breakfast sponsored by Great Harvest Bread Company at registration (8:30 am).  All golfers will receive “goody” bags, sponsored by Hooters, which contain a wide variety of items from local vendors, including this year’s Gridiron Golf Classic t-shirt (with towel sponsors listed on the back).  A 10:00 am shotgun start officially begins the outing.

Once on the course, golfers are treated to the tastes of many of our areas great restaurants including Trio, Buffalo Wild Wings, Papa Joes, Vince & Sons and more!  Complimentary beverages will be offered throughout the course and at designated beverage pavilions.  A 19th Hole Cocktail Reception welcomes our golfers back and joins them with dinner guests, while offering the opportunity to peruse the many attractive raffle items and silent auction options.  Our event closes with a fabulous dinner prepared by the Silver Lake chefs, while enjoying the musical entertainment of Nino Folino.  This year’s silent auction will offer an impressive array of items that will dazzle fans of all ages.

While the events on June 28th provide a great opportunity for golfers, sponsors, and guests to mingle and enjoy the festivities, this event has an important purpose – to raise much needed financial support for each of the football programs, as well as contributing a percentage of the monies raised to three local charities.  In 2011, each football program received over $12,000 each.  The event also donated $6,000 to three local charities, including Misericordia, Pioneers in Pink and Erin’s AAIM.  Each of these three charities is particularly important to our Pioneer and Sandburg communities.

Each year both our high school and youth football programs must be prepared with the proper safety equipment for our players and training for our coaches.  Money raised helps defray the cost of purchasing new safety and training equipment.  In addition, this monetary support is used to defray football camp costs our Sandburg Varsity players attend each summer.
