Eagles Hockey Teams ARE Illinois High School West Division Champions!

Eagles Hockey Varsity and Junior Varsity teams both earned the Championship title in the Illinois High School Hockey West Division.

Eagles Hockey Varsity and Junior Varsity teams both earned the Championship title in the Illinois High School Hockey West Division, with the Varsity clinching the title this past Tuesday night in a 6-2 victory over Naperville North.

Rivals throughout the regular season play, the Eagles and Naperville North always found themselves with either a tie or one point game win.  As both teams entered the Championship round for the division title, it would be the best of three.  The Eagles won the first game in a shootout after regulation time. Game 2 also went into a shoot out, giving Naperville North the one point advantage in the end. Game 3 ended in a 6-2 victory for the Eagles, earning the Varsity team the division title. The excitement would be short lived, however, as the Eagles faced off against this same opponent the very next night in the Illinois State Blackhawk Cup Quarter-finals game.

The State playoff game proved to be the battle these two talented teams had faced all season.  Mike Misheck started the Eagles scoring early in the first period, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period. The second period gave Naperville North a goal almost halfway through the period, but was answered 53 seconds later with an Eagle goal by Eric Saulters.  The third period started with the Eagles up 2-1, yet a powerplay goal by Naperville North tied the teams with about seven minutes left to play. Naperville North earned a third goal, appearing to have the game wrapped up when Mike Misheck found the net with only 32 seconds left to play.  A 10 minute overtime resulted in Adam Howey scoring the game winning goal within four minutes of play.  The Eagles move on to the Semi-Final game this Sunday against New Trier Green.

The Eagles Junior Varsity team ended its West Division in first place, with an impressive 33-1-1 record.  Advancing to the Championship round, the JV Eagles would wrap up its title in two games against Bartlett-Wheaton West, defeating the opponent 3-0 and 4-1, respectively.
