Eagles Fall to Knights in Season Opener

After Mother Nature called an audible Friday night, the Sandburg Eagles Varsity Football team was an unstoppable force for the Lincolnway Central Knights during the first half of the season opener on Saturday, August 31st at Lashmet Field in New Lenox.
Leading the Knights 21-6 at halftime, the Eagles appeared strong on defense preventing its opposition from gaining much yardage and forcing several turnovers for the Knights.  The second half of the game was a different story.  The Eagles struggled throughout the second half, with a questionable Knights' touchdown call late in the 3rd quarter, allowing only a one point game bringing the score 21-20 at the end of the 3rd.  While the Eagles made some progress in the 4th quarter, the Knights defense shut down most of the Eagles running game.  Late in the 4th the Knights scored again, giving the home team the 26-21 advantage over the Eagles, and ending the game with a win for the Knights.  The Eagles host the Andrew Thunderbolts next Friday, September 6th, kick off at 7:15pm for its home opener.
