Eagles JV Hockey Earn WIN against Hinsdale Central

The Eagles Junior Varsity Hockey team may not have had the size of Hinsdale Central, but they clearly had the strength and determination to defeat the HC Ice Devils 6-5 in an overtime shootout.

Early in the game, Justin Frankenbach found the net, with assists by Kyle Kallberg and Dan Oliszewicz. Later, with only 10 seconds left in the 1st period, Frankenbach would once again score, with Oliszewicz again his wingman. In a back and forth scoring game, the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period.

The second period saw similar scoring opportunities, with Dan Neubaum earning an unassisted goal early in the second, only to be returned by two Hinsdale Central goals. With only 15 seconds left in the second period, Abby Flaherty came in strong unassisted with the fourth goal for the Eagles, ending another period tied, 4-4.

The third period was a strong defensive period for both teams. Hinsdale Central scored first, taking the lead with 4:34 left in the period. One minute later, Frankenbach earned a hat trick for the game and tied the game 5-5.

As the game ended in a tie, goalie Jacob Meier was the defensive focus for the Eagles as he prepared for a shoot out. The Eagles' Dan Neubaum scored the first OT goal, only to be followed by a Hinsdale Central OT goal.  Eagles' Evan Flaherty would end the game with an OT shoot out goal, earning the Eagles a "W" for the game! While the final score in overtime indicated seven goals for the Eagles, official game results only post the winning goal of the game, which posts a 6-5 win for the Eagles for the Illinois West High School Hockey League stats.
