Orland Park Culver's, LifeSource to Partner for Mobile Blood Drive This Saturday

Culver’s Restaurant celebrates its 30th anniversary this month, but instead of donning a party hat and blowing out candles, the Orland Park Culver’s at 9130 159th St. will ask its patrons to donate blood from noon-6 p.m. this Saturday, July 5, in the restaurant’s parking lot.

The drive is just one of 30 LifeSource mobile blood drives planned at suburban Culver’s locations through July.

In keeping with the 30th anniversary Culver’s theme, LifeSource hopes to collect 30 pints of blood at each, daily Culver’s blood drive.

This is the restaurant chain’s second year in promoting its “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” campaign, which last year garnered 1,000 pints of blood. Each unit can support up to three lives. According to LifeSource, summers are difficult on Chicagoland’s blood supply because many of its routine donors are vacationing or are busy with family plans and often unable to schedule time to donate blood.

As part of its “Culver’s Cares” program, each participating suburban Culver’s will host a LifeSource mobile unit in its parking lot on an assigned day in July. All participating blood donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of Fresh Frozen Custard.

“Summer is when the need for blood is greatest,” explains Culver’s Buffalo Grove franchisee Jack Rush. “This 30th anniversary celebration focuses on the importance of donating blood and supporting our communities.”

LifeSource is appreciative to Culver’s for combining its 30th anniversary celebration with a cause to help support life for Chicagoland patients in need.

“We’re grateful to our Culver’s friends for providing this additional reward to our ongoing and potential donors,” says Chad Douglas, Executive Director of LifeSource. “Blood donors have a life-supporting impact on those who receive blood,” he adds. “We’re glad that Culver’s is helping us to support our summer blood collections.”

While donors help to replenish Chicagoland’s blood supplies, Douglas says, they also receive a wellness check-up that examines their blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count, and screens for cholesterol.

Those interested in donating can pre-register inside their local Culver’s restaurant, or visit www.lifesource.org to see dates, times and locations of their nearest Culver’s blood drive event.

Along with hosting daily blood drives, LifeSource operates 19 community donor centers and four fixed sites with regular operating days and hours. In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification.
