POSA finishes 3rd in Conference

Although Independence Day was 5 days earlier there were fireworks in the Lincoln-Way East Pool by the Palos Orland Swim Association (POSA) on July 9th.  POSA was competing in the South Suburban Swim Conference (SSSC) Gold Division Championship Swim Meet.  POSA finished a decisive 3rd place behind the much larger LWSA and HWSA teams and over 120 points ahead of 3 other very competitive teams.  POSA also challenged the HWSA team for 2nd Place for much of the meet.

The POSA Eagles were led by some of their younger swimmers.  Ava Giblin (8) earned two first place finishes in her two individual swims and Lilly Molloy (8) finished second in both of her swims and in one case right behind Giblin.  Ava’s twin brother Grant Giblin also finished 1st and 2nd with his individual swims.  The 8 & Under Girls Relay teams of Giblin, Molloy, Gracie Kamykowski, and Claire Donnell finished 1st and 2nd in their relay swims.  Peter Bukiri (12) also contributed large with a 1st and 2nd Place finish in his two individual swims.  The 14 & Under Girls relays teams of Alexa Barstatis, Payton Craig, Tara Maher, Madison Stuursma, and Bella Wrobel delivered strong performances with two 2nd place finishes.

POSA had 50 New best times in their events and every swimmer contributed to the great finish.   In addition to both Giblins, the other high point leaders in their age groups were Caitlin Krull, Dylan Comiskey, Bella Wrobel, Joey Jenkot, Morgan Hawes, Peter Bukiri, Molly Lawlor, Jasper Regan/ Ethan Pautsch.  The other Conference Champion with a 1st Place finish was Clare Lawlor in the Girls 18 & Under Backstroke.

Head Coach Josh Rogers was very pleased with his team’s effort. “With 50 new best times it was clear that as a team we were ready to swim.  The swimmers really delivered in the pool.  A top three finish in the SSSC Gold Division is an awesome accomplishment especially considering the high level of talent on all of the teams."

POSA is a year round Illinois Swimming club swim team that is primarily a feeder program for Carl Sandburg HS.  POSA's home pool is at Sandburg.  The SSSC is composed of 18 teams in 3 Divisions. The Gold Division is designated as the highest level of the three and has 6 teams.
