Cook County and Will County Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Orland Park among areas that are expected to get severe weather Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Cook and Will County starting Tuesday evening and ending at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Elsewhere, west-central Cook County, as well as parts of Kendall, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy and Kane counties are under a tornado warning until 9 p.m. Tuesday night. The NWS described a "severe squall line,  capable of producing damaging straight line winds and brief rain-wrapped tornadoes."

Residents of those areas are encouraged to take shelter in the nearest basement.
