'Adopt a Park' Program Helps Clean Orland Parks

The groups are responsible for one cleanup day per month during May, June, September and October.

Residents willing to pitch in to keep Orland's park cleans have a new way to do so.

Individuals, youth groups, neighborhood associations, businesses and other community groups are invited to participate in Orland Park's Adopt-A-Park program. Participants are encouraged to work hands-on to help keep the 63 parks of Orland Park clean and litter free.

Each year, community groups commit to work in a park of their choice one day per month during the designated cleanup months of May, June, September and October. Groups are able to choose one day they will participate in each of the designated months.  It is the responsibility of each adopted park’s group representatives to organize these cleanup dates, and inform the Recreation Department of their selected days.

Groups adopting a park from the Village of Orland Park commit to performing debris and litter removal only and are required to provide their own materials for cleanup. Individual groups are responsible for following the park policies and procedures set forth by Orland Park.

“We have so many great parks in our community,” said Trustee Patricia Gira. “I think it is wonderful that members of the community are taking an active interest in keeping them beautiful,” she added.

Those interested in the Adopt-A-Park Program will need to submit an application along with release forms from all participants.  Adopted parks will be assigned on a first come first serve basis.  Organizations’ names will be acknowledged on a plaque at Centennial Park.

Applications and further information can be found at www.orlandpark.org or by calling 708/403-6258.
