Patch Picks: Five Great Funny Stories for Kids

Every Thursday, we'll offer you five picks of quality to be found in town.

This week, we looked at the many bookmark-shaped lists the Orland Park Public Library keeps at its reference desk in the children’s section, with recommendations on great books for kids.

We decided to stick to funny stories, but the also has lists of mysteries, cookbooks, poetry collections, science books, humor selections and books that help with learning.

Part of the Eddie Dickens trilogy, the book begins with Eddie having to leave his sickly parents, only to stay with his crazed aunt and uncle. Eddie dodges the shortcomings of several other incompetent adults as he makes his way back to his caring parents. 

The BFG by Roald Dahl

The classic tale of a misunderstood giant who prefers to keep a vegetarian diet, and send dreams into the bedrooms of children, rather than eating them like his oafish brothers. The biggest part of the Big Friendly Giant is his heart.

The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle

A whimsical story of children getting a bit of playful revenge after they are sent to bed without dinner for breaking a window. That is until Mr. Mack tries to make amends with his kids, but they already set up a dirty prank to teach him a lesson. Will they catch Mr. Mack in time?
