Writing, Hawaii, Yoga and Comics: The Grab & Go Kids Planner

Looking for something to keep your kids busy? Look no further, as we've got great local and regional events.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Look for the kids’ planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. We want to hear from you.

Writing, Blogging and Journaling Workshop

Where/When: Thursday, 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at The Bridge Teen Center, 15555 S 71st Ct, Orland Park.

Why Go: Hobbies are like nutrition for the mind, and writing can be a powerful supplement. Learn how to coalesce and articulate your thoughts with clarity and sharpness.

Luau at the Library

Where/When:  Friday, 7p.m. – 8:30p.m., Orland Park Public Library, 14921 S Ravinia Ave, Orland Park. Room 104.

Why Go: It may still be winter outside, but it’s a lot warmer inside the library. Wear a Hawaiian shirt, and be ready for an evening of games and activities for kids and teens 6th grade an up.

Yoga for Kids

Where/When: Mondays, 3:30p.m. – 4:15p.m., the Academy of Creative Movement and Yoga Studio in Orland Park. Call 708-403-7225 for location. 

Why Go: Yoga increases flexibility, improves posture and helps make muscles long and more elastic. It also has a calming effect, and no one is too young for that.

Pricing: $10 for drop ins, $52 for six classes and $94 for 12 classes.

DAN CON COMIC BOOK SHOW www.dancon2011.tk

Where/When: Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park

Why Go: There will be more than 20 local comic artists, writers and publishers as well as more than 15 local comic book sellers and comic shops on hand.

Pricing: Admission is $2

CHOCOLATE FEST   www.hfparks.com

Where/When: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at H-F Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road, Homewood.

Why Go: Celebrate the 1950s, enjoy live music from Fast Eddie and the Corvettes, demonstrations from dessert chefs, sample wares from local and national confectioners, play Bingo Stroll and take trolley rides. There’s also a chocolate recipe bake-off.
