March 17th Concert String Concert Features Irish Music

The Music Connection of Orland Park and Frankfort presents its annual Suzuki Strings Concert on Saturday, March 17th at 6PM at Faith United Methodist Church, 15101 S. 80th Avenue, Orland Park, Illinois, 60462.

“Since our concert falls on St. Patrick’s Day this year, we decided to include some fiddle music and Irish tunes,” said Janet Kuester, director of The Music Connection.

“We think it is important that our students have a strong musical and technical foundation with the beautiful classics that have been a part of western music for the last 325 years,” continued Kuester.

“However, we music instructors also recognize that there is so much music that has appeal to many groups of people. Since many children do not sing at home or at school as much as in the past, we can also introduce music that maybe isn’t on the ‘popular track’ but nevertheless, music that we love; music that makes us want to cry, sing or dance.”

“There is so much of Irish music used in our culture and media,” added Kuester. “People are sure to recognize ‘When Irish Eyes Are Smiling,’ ‘Rakes of Mallow,’ and ‘The Irish Washerwoman’.”

The concert will feature beginning through advanced Suzuki violin and cello students performing classics by such composers as Bach, Schumann, and von Weber as well as two lighter pieces which combine the violin group with student pianist Lauren Dauber of Frankfort. Lauren will accompany the violin group on two selections: “Linus and Lucy” and “What a Wonderful World.”

“Since our two biggest programs are violin and piano, the last year we have looked at more ways to incorporate combinations of violin and piano students so they all enjoy making music together.”

Students of the adult violin group will also be featured in two numbers by Mozart and Frescobaldi. The adult group is directed by Heather Carlasare. Suzuki group classes are directed by Ana Simonovska, Megan Gerhardstein, Heather Carlasare, Kristina Dutton, and Janet Kuester.
