Von Trapp Children to perform

Fans of the Academy Award-winning musical The Sound of Music are in for a treat.

The great-grandchildren of Captain von Trapp, whose singing family was portrayed in the 1965 film featuring Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews, will perform at 7:30pm Sept. 18 at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort.

"It is my great pleasure to present the world-renowned, award-winning von Trapp children at Lincoln-Way East High School's state-of-the-art auditorium," said Denise Adducci, performing arts coordinator for Lincoln-Way High School District 210.

This is the second year Lincoln-Way High School District 210 has brought world-class entertainers to the area via its Spotlight Series. Last year, it mesmerized crowds with the death-defying Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats and revisited the sounds of the Fab Four with the Beatles tribute band American English.

This year, it will captivate audiences with an off-Broadway musical comedy, "Forever Plaid;" astonish them with the breathtaking feats of The New Shanghai Circus; and charm them with the sensational voices of The Three Irish Sopranos.

The series will begin Sept. 18 with the von Trapp Children, comprised of siblings Sofia, Melanie, Amanda and Justin von Trapp. The siblings have continued the tradition of the family's exceptional musical gift and love of singing, sharing songs and heart-warming family stories of life before and after coming to America.

The group will perform a variety of folk and classical songs from various European and American traditions, as well as timeless pieces from The Sound of Music. Their effervescent voices mesh the way only a family's can. Musicians and audiences from all over the world recognize the family's beautiful harmonic blend and pristine tone.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youth (grades K-12) and senior citizens (age 65+). Children younger than kindergarten age will not be admitted.

Tickets may be purchased by contacting Denise Adducci at 815-534-3240 or by downloading an order form at www.lw210.org/spotlightseries.
