Orland Hills Fashion Bug Closing

Fashion Bug, a national retail chain that carries women’s fashions in sizes 6 to 30 and caters to plus-size women, is being phased out by its new corporate parent Ascena Retail Group.

Ascena earlier this year completed its buyout of Charming Shoppes Inc., which owns Fashion Bug, and now plans to close the remaining several hundred Fashion Bug stores by early next year.

The Fashion Bug store at 9295 W. 159th St. in Orland Hills is among five Southland stores the retailer will be closing after the Christmas shopping season. Other stores are at 17805 S. Halsted St., in Homewood; 8735 S. Harlem Ave., in Bridgeview; 3209 W. 115th St., in Merrionette Park; and in Joliet.

“We don’t have an exact date for the closing,” said a clerk at the Orland Hills store. “It will be after the holidays, either at the end of the year or in early January.”

She said employees have been told they can apply to transfer to a sister store including Lane Bryant, Catherine’s, Maurice’s, Dressbarn and Justice, but no jobs are guaranteed.

Skyn Spa now open in Orland Park

Skyn Spa opened recently at 18058 S. Wolf Road in the Jewel-Osco plaza in Orland Park. The spa features relaxation massage and microdermabrasion. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Italio Coming to Orland Park Place

Italio Modern Italian Kitchen has signed a lease to take over the space recently vacated by Cosi at Orland Park Place mall at 151st Street and LaGrange Road in Orland Park, according to a release from Inland Real Estate Corp.

The new restaurant will feature fast casual Italian dining with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. The Orland location will be the start-up company’s first in the Midwest and one of its first sites in the country. The company recently opened its first restaurant in Boca Raton, Fla., and has announced seven additional locations in Florida.

Italio is expected to open in the first quarter of 2013.

Cooper’s Hawk Adds Sunday Brunch

Advocate Merges Children’s Hospitals

Advocate has merged its two children’s hospitals— Hope in Oak Lawn and Lutheran General in Park Ridge—into a single pediatric care center called Advocate Children’s Hospital.

Advocate says the integrated Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric care provider in Illinois and among the top 10 pediatric care centers in the United States.

Advocate says the two campuses will offer families more specialists—400 pediatricians and 230 pediatric sub-specialists—and greater access to care—the Level IIIc perinatal center and Level III neonatal intensive care unit—than Hope or Lutheran General could provide on their own.

Veterans Job Fair on Nov. 8

A series of statewide job fairs to find employment for veterans will stop in the Southland from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Chicago Gaelic Park, 6119 W. 147th St., in Oak Forest.

The fairs are sponsored by the Illinois Department of Employment Security and local workforce partners.

“We know jobs are available,” said IDES Director Jay Rowell. “More than 120,000 positions in Illinoisjoblink.com and 175,000 in the Help Wanted On-line index demonstrate our business leaders are ready to hire.”

Companies that hire veterans can be eligible for up to a $5,000 state income tax credit, and they may be eligible for a $4,800 federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit.

The Orland Park Lions Club is hosting a Business After Hours and fundraiser at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8.

There will the Lions Club beer being poured with a percent of the sales being donated to the Orland Park Lions Club.

Culver's Hosts a Day of Giving for Abby

On Monday, Nov. 12, Culver’s restaurants in Tinley Park, Orland Park, Matteson, Homewood and Frankfort will donate a percentage of their sales to help pay for medical expenses for former team member Abby Muys-Wolf who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2006.

"At Culver’s, we care about making a difference in the community, and one of best ways to do that is by helping those going through difficult times," said Justin Obriecht, owner of the Culver’s hosting the event.
