Deerfield-based retail giant Walgreens plans to shutter 76 unprofitable stores across the country in an effort to save up to $50 million, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Most of the closures, though specific locations were not named in a Tuesday investor conference, will occur in towns where other Walgreens are currently located, the article states. Meanwhile, Walgreens reports it will still have a net increase of up to 75 stores in new locations.

There is one on every corner anyway! Shouldn't hurt them to close a few.

Barb - I was just going to write the same thing! They spent how much money remodeling and building new stores in the past year, now they have to close. What a waste! CVS will take over the stores they close, I'm sure.

What about all these people that are going to lose their jobs, how insensitive!
