Whole Foods Taking Former Borders Space in Orland Park

The high-end organic and specialty grocery store is scheduled to open in Orland Park in fall 2012.

Orland Park is expected to get a new grocery store in the fall.

Whole Foods Market will be opening up a 27,000 square-foot store in the space formerly occupied by Borders Bookstore at 15260 S. LaGrange Road. The store will be the first Whole Foods in the south suburbs, joining 17 other locations throughout the Chicago area.

The store is expected to add between 150 and 160 jobs to the area, according to a release from the Austin, Tx.-based company.

“We greatly look forward to sharing our wide selection of high-quality natural and organic products with our new customers in the area, while also employing a team that is passionate about what we sell,” said Michael Bashaw, Midwest regional president at Whole Foods Market, in the release.

at 11333 W. 159th St. have happened, though sources have yet to confirm full plans.

In 2011, about one block north from where Whole Foods will open. also closed after 25 years.
