Wooden Paddle Pizza Opens for Business

The new Orland Park pizzeria specializes in customized pies with an array of toppings, and options for people in need of gluten free and vegan choices.

Wooden Paddle Pizza opened Thursday morning in Orland Park at 11137 W. 179th St.

The carry out and delivery pizzeria features specialty pies, such as a four-cheese white pizza, margherita pizza and a barbecue chicken pie.

Wooden Paddle also offers a build-your-own style with an array of choices. It starts with three kinds of crust, including whole wheat and gluten free. Then a choice of five sauces, such as basil pesto, roasted vegetable and red tomato. Next comes five styles of cheese, such as fresh mozzarella, provolone and vegan cheese.

The last choice is toppings, with 24 to choose from, including arugula, applewood-smoked bacon, meat balls, giardiniera, roasted red pepper and basil grown in-house among their other herbs.

The pizzas are placed in an 800 degree conveyor belt oven, which cooks them in about two minutes.

Wooden Paddle also sells gelato, including a salted caramel version.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Wooden Paddle sold about 500 pizzas. People camped out starting at 9 p.m. to be among the first 25 customers, who won free pizza for a year.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
