School District 146’s first year program “District 146 Gives” is not only in full swing, but the projects have been highly successful. For the March project, “District 146 Gives” hosted a food drive with donations from employees. Dr. Jeff Stawick, District 146 Superintendent, and Laura Bachman, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, were the food drive coordinators. Ms. Bachman said, “In these challenging economic times, many families are struggling. This was a collaborative effort of all District 146 staff members. Having a food drive was just one way that District 146 is able to give back to the community.”
The food was collected by all five schools and the Administration Center. The donations were delivered by Dr. Stawick and Ms. Bachman to Together We Cope, a not-for-profit that aids those in the Southland providing them with food, shelter and clothing, helping them to get back on their feet and become self-sufficient.
Dr. Stawick said, “When I learned about the food drive and the partnership with Together We Cope I jumped on the project. The experience was awesome and powerful. We were simply blown away by the generosity of the D146 employees. The food drive was something that both Laura and I decided to work on together and the feeling when we delivered the food was incredible. It was a rewarding project and the “District 146 Gives” committee is just fantastic. The monthly projects for the community have been over-the-top successful each month. D146 family goes above and beyond. I am so proud and humbled to be working for this District and alongside so many incredible people. They simply blow me away everyday with their dedication to others.”
Other recent “District 146 Gives” projects included: PAWS Tinley Donation, coat drive, blood drive and Art Donation.
