More then 360 students from 14 high schools attended the District 230 Sports Medicine Symposium held at Moraine Valley Community College on Tuesday. Athletic Trainers Phil Dryier (Andrew), Dave Kreis (Sandburg) and Kristin Pila (Stagg) organized the event with the support of a District 230 Foundation grant.
Students took part in large group presentations and smaller lab sessions led by doctors, therapists, athletic trainers and others in sports medicine-related fields.
District 230 students involved in the EMT training program led participants through the proper steps to backboard a patient. The EMT students train with Trace Ambulance in order to earn EMT certification. This allows them to work as an EMT right out of high school while pursuing Paramedic certification or attending college for medical-related careers.
