Sandburg Spanish students immerse selves in Mexican culture

Sandburg High School's Honors Spanish IV classes visited the Mexican Museum of Fine Arts to see the Día de los Muertos exhibits. Each year the museum invites artists from all over the country and parts of Mexico to build “ofrendas”, or offerings to those who have passed on.

It's a holiday with roots both in Aztec and Spanish culture. This year's theme was the 100th anniversary of the “Catrina"figure, which was created by José Guadalupe Posada. Students heard from guides the significance behind this figure and each ofrenda at the museum.

Students capped off the day with lunch at Los Comales restaurant and a visit to a local panadería, or bakery. Students enjoyed their day while participating in the Mexican culture.
