In the Rear View: Pets, Boots and New District Borders

We look back at a week of politics, crime, business and more.

MONDAY

With the Main Street Triangle development getting closer, owners of the 40-years-old town staple still want to stay in Orland Park. If so, they’ll be entitled to additional relocation funds from the village.

Orland Township's first ever Pet Palooza brought many animals and fans of animals out to raise money for the township's pet pantry.

TUESDAY

The village’s Public Safety committee reviewed a proposal to add unpaid red light tickets to the list of reasons police could immobilize your car. What’s more, a new collection agency was (re)hired to help the village rake in some of the $4.2 million in parking fines and another $1.2 million in municipal fines it says it's owed.

WEDNESDAY

Also at Monday’s village board, trustees put the purchase of iPads on hold until the newly created Technology, Communication and Community Engagement Committee could look it over. Kosnar Liquors is on its way to becoming the first Plaza business to receive relocation funds.

In case you missed the din, upheaval and finger-pointing which were the last 11 weeks at the Orland Fire Protection District, here's what happened. We constructed a timeline of events which acts as a central point in the discussion about whether the new fire board is any different than the old.

THURSDAY

Is the end of the Orland Plaza nearing? Attorneys received a potential settlement agreement in writing this week, but they stress that it is subject to change.

FRIDAY

Gov. Pat Quinn on Friday signed a redrawn map of state Congressional district boundaries that is believed to be favorable to Democrats. Under the new boundaries, parts of Orland Park and Orland Hills will now be in the 3rd Illinois U.S. Congressional District. Others will stay in the 13th District.

A man who initially told police he was attacked was later accused of recklessly handling a loaded pistol and striking a person with a metal chain wrapped around his fist. Be safe out there.
